Was born on August 19, 1883, in Saumur,
France
Famous for her timeless designs,
trademark suits and little black dresses.
Was raised in an orphanage and taught
to sew.
Had a brief career as a singer before
opening her first clothes shop in 1910.
In the 1920s, she launched her first
perfume and eventually introduced the
Chanel suit and the little black dress,
with an emphasis on making clothes that
YVES SAINT
LAURENT

Was a European fashion designer born on
August 1, 1936 in Oran, Algeria.
Left for Paris to work for designer Christian
Dior and gained acclaim for his dress designs.
Launched his own fashion labels, where his
adaptations of tuxedos for women garnered
him fame in 1966.
Was the first living designer to receive a solo
exhibition in New Yorks Metropolitan Museum
of Art in 1983.
Died in Paris on June 1, 2008 from brain cancer.
GUCCIO GUCCI

Was born in 1881 in Florence, Italy.
Opened the first Gucci shop in 1921 and
became known for quality leathergoods
and fine craftsmanship.
His four sons also joined the Gucci firm.
In 1953, the year Guccio Gucci died, the
first overseas shop opened in New York
City by his grandson Maurizio.
HUBERT DE
GIVENCHY

Was born to an aristocratic family in
Beauvais, France, on February 21, 1927.
After attending art school, he worked for
several important fashion designers in
Paris.
Opened his own design house in 1952
and was immediately praised for his chic,
feminine designs.
One of Givenchy's most famous affiliates
was actress Audrey Hepburn, who wore
his designs in Breakfast at Tiffany's and
Charade, among other films.
GIORGIO
ARMANI

Was born on July 11, 1934, in Italy.
Is an iconic clothing designer who has
expanded his empire to include
restaurants and hotels.
His popularity skyrocketed in America in
the 1980s when his men's 'power suits'
appeared frequently on the television
series Miami Vice and in the 1980 film
American Gigolo, which starred Richard
Gere in Armani's signature garb.
