Drugs are essentially poison


In a large enough dose any drug can kill
Some act as a stimulant
Some act as a sedative
Most drugs affect the mind
MARIJUANA

Effects:
Increased appetite
Increased heart rate (5x Heart attack risk)
Memory impaired
Loss of ability to solve problems
ALCOHOL

Long-term effects:
Liver damage
Increased risk of heart disease
Dependency

DIET

The sum of food consumed by an organism or group.


BASIC NUTRITION

FATS

It is important to have some fat in your diet.


Fat helps you absorb fat-soluble vitamins. Vitamins A, D, E, and K.
Provides essential fatty acids.
DAIRY

Important sources of proteins, vitamins, and minerals.


Rich in calcium
Milk, yogurt, and cheese
High in fat
Good sources of vitamins A and D
MEAT

Primary source in the diet.


Protein is needed for growth and repair.
GRAINS

Cereals, breads, crackers, and rice.


Supplies energy though carbohydrates.
UNDERSTANDING FOOD LABELS

1- Start with the serving information at the top of the label.


This tells you the size of a single serving and the total number of servings per
container
2- Next, check total calories per serving.
3- Limit these nutrients- Saturated fats, trans fats, and sodium
4- Get enough of these- Vitamins, fiber, and proteins
