 What is Intestinal Epithelial Cell??

The intestinal epithelium is the layer of

cells that forms the luminal surface or lining
of both the small and large intestine (colon)
of the gastrointestinal tract.
It is composed of simple columnar
epithelium. It has two important functions:
absorbing helpful substances and providing a
barrier against harmful substances.

Epithelial cell means tissue that have in almost every parts of our body such as
muscle, intestine and nerve cell which every cell are in different parts of the body.

Intestinal epithelial cell is located in small intestine because its help to absorb
nutrients.

How does your cell differ from the generalized
plant or animal cell?
The intestinal epithelial cell is different from the animal cell, and plant
cell both in shape and function. The intestinal epithelial cell is quite
similar to the plant cell, they have similar structures. Both of plant and
intestinal epithelial cells have cell walls, but animal cell doesnt have a cell
wall.The intestinal epithelial cell has a specialized function different from
plant and animal cells. The functions of epithelial cell include secretion,
selective absorption, protection, transcellular transport, and sensing, but
animal cell only produces protein,and lipid.
What specialized organelles are found in this
cell?
There is no specialized organelles in this cell. The organelles are the
same to another cell, but the structure and the function are different.
Shape of cell
In intestinal epithelial cell is composed of the singer layer of cell. Shape is like half
oval and it has microvilli (like hair) on the top.
Function of cell
The intestinal epithelium cell has
two functions. First, it acts like
barrier,preventing the entry of
harmful substances such as foreign
antigens, toxins, and
microorganisms. Second, it acts like
a selective filter which facilitates the
uptake of dietary nutrients,
electrolytes, water and various other
beneficial substances from the
intestinal lumen.

The luminal surface of cell is
packed with microvilli that make
up the absorbing surface.
How does the function of this keep help keep
the organism alive?
This cell is the one that very important for our lives. This cell is in the small
intestine. The small intestine is one of the most important organs in our bodies
because the small intestine has to digest all the food that we eat and to absorb the
nutrients after digesting the food. If our bodies did not have the intestinal epithelial
cell, theres nothing to absorb the nutrient to use in our bodies ,and if our bodies
are lack of the important nutrient, we would be bad and there are many diseases
that causes from lacking of the important nutrient.
