SIGNAL AND UNWANTED NOISE

WHAT IS SNR AND SNIR?

SNR : ratio of signal power to the noise power, often expressed in decibels.

SNR = Signal power/Noise power.

SINR : ratio of signal power to the noise power & interference coming from
unwanted signal sources, often expressed in decibels.

SINR = Signal power/(Noise power+Interference power).

ONE CELL CELLULAR SYSTEM
WHAT IS FREQUENCY REUSE ?

ABILITY TO REUSE FREQUENCY TO INCREASE BOTH

COVERAGE AND CAPACITY.

Example of a frequency reuse

plan for cluster size N=3, with

hexagonal cells.
COVERAGE PROBABILITY

The probability of coverage can be defined as the complementary cumulative

distribution function of SINR as : cP = P[SINR > T ]. It can also be visualized

as being the average area or the average fraction of users in coverage.

FR1(Frequency Reuse 1)
This means that the whole band of frequency of

used in a cell and reused in each of the adjacent

cells. Because the same frequency is used in all

cells, high interference occurs in this system

making it impractical. Note that there are 6 cells

with the same frequency band around each cell.

(From our matlab design)
FR3(Frequency Reuse 3)
Here, the allocated band is divided into 3 bands (possibly

with equal bandwidth) and the three subbands are reused

in an alternating fashion. No neighboring cells have the

same frequency in this configuration resulting in it being the

cluster with the least number of cells that is provides

practical frequency reuse.

FFR(Fractional Frequency Reuse)

Fractional Frequency reuse is one effective

solution of inter-cell interference control.

The basic idea is to partition the bandwidth of the

cell so that cell-edge users have a higher reuse

factor than cell centre users.

PICO-CELL

A picocell is a small cellular base station typically covering a small area, such

as offices, shopping malls, train stations, stock exchanges, etc. In cellular

networks, picocells are typically used to extend coverage to indoor areas

where outdoor signals do not reach well, or to add network capacity in

areas with very dense phone usage, such as train stations or stadiums.
