VDEO ATENUATION

At, 1556:37, the first officer, who

was flying the airplane, said: "I
can't read that, it just looks like
rain, Bill. What do you think?

The captain responded: There's a

hole right here. That's all I see.

VDEO WATER INGESTION TEST

The loss of thrust was caused by

the ingestion of massive amounts
of water and hail which in
combination with thrust lever
movement induced severe
stalling in and major damage to
the engine compressors.

VDEO DC9 CRASH 4

After losing both engines in flight, Flight

242 attempted an emergency landing on
State Spur Highway 92, which bisected New
Hope. Of the 85 persons aboard Flight 242,
62 were killed, 22 were seriously injured,
and l was slightly injured. One passenger
died on June 5, 1977. Additionally, eight
persons on the ground were killed and one
person was seriously injured; the injured
person died about 1 month after the
accident. The aircraft was destroyed.

CONCEITOS BSICOS

O Radar possui 3 funes principais:

- Encontrar a distncia para um determinado alvo;

ganho mximo;
- Reduz-se vagarosamente o ganho;
- A cor mudar de vermelho para amarelo;
- A parte do eco que mudar por ltimo para a cor

VDEO UPSET DEFINITION

49

LOSS OF CONTROL INFLIGHT

UPSET RECOVERY

These techniques assume that the

airplane is not stalled.

50

LOSS OF CONTROL INFLIGHT

VDEO B757 SPEED
51

LOSS OF CONTROL INFLIGHT

A stalled condition can exist at any attitude and may

be recognized by continuous shaker activation
accompanied by one or more of the following:

Buffeting which could be heavy at times

Lack of pitch authority and/or roll control

Inability to arrest descent rate.

52

LOSS OF CONTROL INFLIGHT

VDEO STALL RECOVERY

If the airplane is stalled, recovery from the stall must be

accomplished first by applying and maintaining nose down elevator
until stall recovery is complete and stick shaker activation ceases.

85

RADAR OPERATION

RADAR IS OFF

-The System Control knob on the Radar control panel is set

to TEST while the aircraft is on the ground and the PWS
Qualifiers are not satisfied.

- Or WXR is deselected on both Electronic Flight Display

control panels while the aircraft is on the ground and the
PWS Qualifiers are not satisfied.
86

RADAR OPERATION
RDR 4000

RADAR IS ON

-The System Control knob on the Radar control panel is set to L or R (dual
system) or NORM (single system) and WXR is selected on at least one
Electronic Flight Display control panel while the aircraft is on the ground.

- Or the PWS Qualifiers are satisfied while the aircraft is on the ground.

- Or the aircraft is in the air, regardless of any other settings.

87

RADAR OPERATION
RDR 4000

MAIN DIFERENCES

AUTO mode provides weather, turbulence, and

predictive windshear detection.
88

RADAR OPERATION
RDR 4000

MAIN DIFERENCES

The scanned volume is from the nose of the aircraft out to 320 nm and from the
ground to 60,000 feet and a three-dimensional (3D) volumetric memory is
continuously created, updated and compensated for aircraft movement.

FULL COVERAGE GROUND MAP MODE (MAP)

For ground mapping use the following procedure:

1. System Control: L/R (or NORM)

2. Mode: MAP
3. Range: As desired
4. Gain: If necessary, adjust for optimum observation of terrain features.

Data from the terrain database is not used,

providing an independent verification of position.
97

RADAR OPERATION
RDR 4000

MAIN DIFERENCES
