SOLAR ENERGY POWERED RANKINE CYCLE FOR

COMBINE POWER AND HEAT GENERATION

Solar energy powered Rankine thermodynamic
cycle which use supercritical Carbon Dioxide as a
working fluid.

Generate electricity power and high grade heat

power .

CO2 selected as a working fluid due to,

- Non flammable and non toxic.
- Critical pressure and the temperature of the
CO2 is 7.31Mpa and 31.10C .
SCHEMATIC CYCLE
Pump should be developed 8MPa pressure.

Heating in the solar collector create a supercritical CO 2 high temperature

state.

Supercritical CO2 drives the engine of the cycle and electrical power
generated at electrical generator.

Low pressure CO2 at the turbine outlet still has supercritical high
temperature CO2

Then CO2 cooled through a high temperature heat recovery system. Heat
extracted from CO2 can be used for,
- heat source for absorption refrigeration plant.
- Boil the water

CO2 next enters to low temperature heat recovery plant where CO2 cools
further and covert to liquid state. Extracted heat can be used for water
heating.
ADDVANTAGES

Solar energy and CO2 available in all part of the world

Reduce CO2 emission and global warming.

DISADVANTAGES
Cycle performance strongly depend on climate condition.

High cost
