Dhirubhai Ambani

Introduction
 Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani
also known as Dhirubhai
was born on December 28,
1932 in Chorwad, a small
village in Gujarat.
 His father’s name was

Hirachand ambani and his


mother’s name was
Jamnaben.
 He was married to

Kokilaben and had two


sons, Mukesh and Anil, and
two daughters, Nita Kothari
and Rina Salgaonkar.
Early Carrier
 At the age of 16, Dhirubhai went to Aden
(now in Yemen) and worked for 'A Besse & Co
Ltd,' the sole distributors of Shell products
for a salary of Rs 300.
 Returned to Mumbai in 1958 started “Majin”

in partnership with his cousin. They import


polyester yarn and export spices.
Dhirubhai’s Achievements
 He is the founder of India's largest industrial
empire i.e. Reliance Commercial Corporation in
1962 with a small capital of Rs 15000.
 Dhirubhai Ambani biggest contribution for

starting the equity culture in India. He is the


first businessman who invites the general public
or small investors to be the shareholders of his
company.
 Reliance Industries holds the distinction that it

is the only Pvt. Co. whose several annual


general meetings were held in stadiums.
Dhirubhai’s Achievements
 In 1975, a technical team of the World Bank
certified that the Reliance textile plant was
'excellent' by developed country standards.
 Reliance is one of the Indian company to be

in the “Fortune500” list.


 Reliance has the largest numbers of

shareholders in India.
Qualities of Dhirubhai’s which
inspired me most
 He is man who believes in simple living and high thinking.
 He is a gigantic personality with inborn leadership and
management qualities.
 Pursue your goal, even in the face of difficulties. Convert
difficulties into opportunities and you will definitely
succeed.
 He advices the entrepreneurs not to accept defeat in odds
but challenge the negative forces with hope, confidence
and firm determination.
 He tells us that growth has no limit but we have to keep
revising our mission. Only when you dream it you can do
it.
Qualities of Dhirubhai’s which
inspired me most
 He is a entrepreneur who dares to risk at fullest
to achieve his goals and objectives.
 We must always go for the best. Do not
compromise on quality. Reject if it is not the best
-- not only the best in India, but globally.
 We can prove to the world that India can do it.
That Indians are not afraid of competition. That
India is a nation of achievers.
 He tells us that “For those who dare to dream,
there is a whole world to win.”
 He tells us that he always deaf to the word “No”
Management lessons from Dhirubhai
 Roll up your sleeves and help i.e. ‘do it
yourself’. Find your own way to remove the
obstacles and succeed in life.
 Be a safety net for your team. If your team

requires support be there and helps them if


needed.
 The silent benefactor. If you helped someone

don’t tell anyone about that.


 “Dream big, but dream with the eyes open”

helps him to reach to such a high position.


Management lessons from Dhirubhai
 Leave the professional alone. Management techniques
of him are different. He deals in a way what he thinks
to be right.
 Change your orbit, constantly. Means don’t allow your

old enemies to enter in new orbit. i.e. in a new stage


of growth.
 He has his own supply creating demand. He never do

research of market like other before increasing the


capacities. He went ahead and created a giants of
manufacturing plants with unbelievable capacities.
 Money is not a product by itself, it is a by-product, so

don’t chase it. It is the spin off when you create


something larger.
