WHAT IS DEPRESSION?

Depression is a serious medical illness.

How you feel, The way you think And how you act.

age of 12 has depression in any 2-week period.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it


is estimated that 350 million people are affected
globally by depression.
DEPRESSION IN ADOLESCENT
More commonly referred to as teenage
depression, this mental and emotional disorder is
no different medically from adult depression.
However, symptoms in teens may manifest
themselves in different ways than in adults due to
the different social and developmental challenges
facing teens.
SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION
Estimates from a study published in American Family
Physician state that up to 15 percent of children and
adolescents have some symptoms of depression.
Appearing sad, irritable, or tearful,
Changes in appetite or weight,
A decrease in energy,
Difficulty concentrating,
Feelings of guilt, worthlessness or helplessness,
Major changes in sleeping habits,
Withdrawal from friends or after-school activities.
CAUSES OF DEPRESSION

Injuries in the Brain,

Traumatic Early Life Events Or Abuses,

Inherited Traits,

Environment,

Lack of Care and Affection.

parents should not take it lightly nor feel embarrass to
accept it and consult psychotherapist ,
