    Amebiasis is an infectious disease caused by the protozoan Entamoeba histolytica that infects 10% of the world's population. The clinical spectrum of amebiasis ranges from asymptomatic carriers to severe fulminant necrotizing colitis. Ameboma is a rare complication of invasive amebiasis that results in the formation of colonic granulation tissue, usually in the cecum or ascending colon, and occurs in 1.5% of invasive amebiasis cases.
