    The Catholic church teaches its faithful that the salvation/redemption brought about by Chris's Paschal Mystery is an act of pure love on the part of the Son who in fulfillment of the Father's plan of salvation he offered his own life on the Cross. The act is therefore a free gift of the Son towards God's people, hence, it is a grace--meaning free self-giving.
