BEING A PROFESSION

Atthe same time, the minister

usually fulfills this calling
through service to a
congregation of Gods people.
These people pay the salary of
the church leader and expects
some type of ministerial
service in return.
1 Peter 5:2-3

The ministers devotion to

God should not be an excuse
for avoiding pastoral duties.
Ministry is both a privilege
and responsibility.

VOCATION

A commitment to
God and neighbour
17
CAREER
A means to pursue ones own
private aims and purposes.

A career person asks;

What do I want to be, and
where do I want to go? (Jonah)

CAREER
Career is more selfish than
selfless.

The minister fulfills a call not

just a career.
PROFESSION 19
Historically, the word profess
meant to testify on behalf of
or to stand for something.

Being a professional person

therefore implied knowledge
and moral responsibility.

The professional knows

the wider community, and

reserved for reverends
who are more concerned
with status and prestige
than spiritual ministry.

However, the very opposite
should be true.

A minister is professional if
his ministry is truly biblical
and Christian.

concerned with
communal interest than

with financial rewards.
27
Though the ministry is not a
profession in a worldly
sense, there are some
standards of professional
practice that apply to the
Christian ministry.
