What Is Operations Management

Operations Management encompasses the whole gamut of


processes, applying concepts, tools and techniques, for the
efficient (productive more products with less inputs) production
of goods or services with application in all kinds of business
operations, be it a hospital, a restaurant, an office or factory.

Defining Operations Management touches on the concept of


production, wherein production simply refers to the production of
goods and services. We may also define Operations as the
conversion or transformation process. Operations Management
then is the set of activities (management activities , namely the
whole aspect of planning, organizing, leading, staffing,
controlling) that produces the goods or services (values).

What Is Operations Management

The output or product may be tangible or intangible. For instance, in


the case of a factory, the output is a tangible good. But in the case of
service sector, the output may not be easily seen by the creator or
even by the customer, such as the education of a college student or a
masteral student. Be that as it may, the whole set of activities by the
organization that result in such tangible or intangible product
constitute Operations Management.
