TIPUS (2)

MUSCLE AND NERVE OF TMJ

PHYSIOLOGY
- Mandibular moves masseter, temporalis, medial pterygoid
muscle contractions
- Masseter muscle also contribute to condylus head moving, so it
lies oblique to fossa mandibular anterior
- Posterior side of temporalis muscle one side retraction and
contraction for contralateral mandibular movement
1. Masseter Muscle
Thick, rectangle shape. It sticks
between lateral side of
mandibular ramus and
zygomaticus arc, under the skin.
2. Medial Pterygoid Muscle
Posterior line compossed same
as posterior line of masseter on
lateral projection, but the
anterior line located more dorsal

3. Lateral Pterygoid
Muscle
Located on mandibular ramus and
temporalis muscle on nasofarin wall.
This muscle located under the skull
base, posterior to maxilla and
anterior to posterior line of
mandibular.
4. Temporalis
Muscle
Located on temporlis
fossa base and
temporalis fascia. While
the other end sticks on
the apex and mesial
side of proc.
Coronoideus and mesial
side of mandibular
ramus.
TMJ Innervation
TMJ Innervation: Sensory nerve supply to TMJ is from
auriculotemporal nerve and masseter nerve which is the branch from
mandibularis nerve. Blood vessel tissue for the joint is from artery
temporalis superficialis which is the branch of artery carotis externa
Nutrition: Blood supply from internal maxilla artery through auriculair
branch. Diffused from the bones that located on synovial fluid.
