Symbol of NSS
Based on the giant Rath Wheel of
the world famous Konark Sun
Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated
in Orissa. The wheel portrays the
cycle of creation, preservation and
release and signifies the movement
in life across time and space. The
symbol thus stands for continuity as
well as change and implies the
continuous striving of NSS for social
change.
Badge of NSS
The NSS Symbol is embossed
on the badge. The eight bars in
the wheel represent the 24
hours of a day.
The red color indicates that the
volunteer is full of young blood
that is lively, active, energetic
and full of high spirit.
The navy blue color indicates
the cosmos of which the NSS is
tiny part, ready to contribute its
share for the welfare of the
mankind.

Funding Pattern
1. Rs 250 per volunteer per year for
regular activities
It includes administrative expenses
of Rs 65-90
Available fund for the activities is
Rs 185 - 160

days residential camp

NSS Training
Regular Activities.
Community work for 120 hours in a
year maintain diary

Special Camping.
7 days in the community
Regular Activities
1. Each volunteer is expected to devote 120 hours/
year for regular activities.
2. A volunteer will maintain the record of 120
hours community work done
3. It must be certified by the NSS Programme
Officer.
4. Based on the diary, the university certificate is
issued to the volunteer after he / she completes
240 hours in 2 years.
Special Camping Programme
1. 7 days camp is organized in adopted villages
or urban slums during vacations with some
specific projects by involving local
communities.
2. 50% NSS volunteers of the unit are expected
to participate in this camp.
3. The Programme Officer will only get the
honorarium after organization of the special
camps.

NATIONAL INTEGRATION CAMPS
NSS Volunteers from various states
gathered at one place for the cause of
National Integration with a specific theme.
This programme gives immense
opportunity to the youth to know the
culture, traditions and heritages of the
participating states .
Minimum 5 states participate in the Camp
out of which one is from NER.
RAJIV GANDHI ADVENTURE SCHEME
2000 volunteers participate in various
adventure programmes in a year under this
scheme.
Trekking, Rock Climbing, Water Rafting, Skiing,
Desert Safari and many more activities.
The activities include traditional as well as
cultural exchange among the participants.
The venue of these programmes are Manali,
Dharmasala, Ooty, Tenmala, Jaisalmer,
Darjeeling, Uttarkashi , Namchi etc.
