Oyster Mushrooms grown on recycled coffee grounds

INTRODUCTION
To reduce the amount of coffee grounds that goes to landfill we decided to grow Oyser Mushrooms on the waste that
is produced by the Universities cafs it is estimated that 500 1000 Kg of used coffee grounds goes to landfill each
week. Were just doing our part for the environment. The aims of our experiment were To successively grow oyster
mushrooms on used coffee grounds and also to see which growing conditions were the most ideal for growing oyster
mushrooms on coffee ground.

MATERIALS & METHODS

1 kg used coffee grounds 150 mL water, 100 g grain spawn, plastic bread
bag, light cloth wrap, rubber bands.

150mL of water, 100g of mushroom spawn, light cloth wrap, rubber bands
and 1kg of used coffee grounds. We will mix the coffee grounds, water and
grain spawn together. We will then punch holes into the bag to allow the
spawn to breathe each individual group members bag will be placed under
different environmental conditions.

RESULTS
Our coffee grounds grew mould and we were terribly disappointed, but we
decided that science experiments may not work every time. Therefore, we
have learnt a valuable lesson.

DISCUSSION
Our experiment was a failure perhaps we should have taken more precautions. Oyster Mushrooms tend to grow
relatively easy on a number of different substrates.

CONCLUSIONS
The experiment was a failiure should we conduct the experiment again many different conditions
need to be changed.
