WHAT IS THE GAME ?


BLUE Whale is a twistedsuicide challenge
that appears to goad vulnerable teens into
killing themselves.
'TheBlue WhaleChallenge' started in 2013
The term "Blue Whale" comes from the phenomenon
ofbeached whales, which is linked to suicide.
Blue Whale began in Russia in 2013 with "F57", one of
the names of the so-called "death group
There are other names of the game exist- A Silent
House, A Sea of Whales, and is mostly played on
Instagram and Snapchat.
WHO CREATED THE GAME?
PHILIPP BUDEIKIN, 21, of Russia, invented Blue Whale suicide 'game
HE says his victims who kill themselves are 'biological waste' and that he is
'cleansing society

BUDEIKIN claimed that the


psychological manipulation
he was administrating was intended
to make the 'victims' happy.

He would select people


he considered WEAK enough to
be manipulated.

A Siberian court sentenced the 22-year-old Russian creator of the game to


three years in jail for inciting Russian youths to kill themselves.
GAME STRUCTURE
The game is based on the relationship between the
challengers and the administrators

THE 50 DAYS RULES-


You have to listen to their recommended songs and
horror movies, everyday.
Cut yourself. (Different day, different cuts)
Wake up at 4:20 AM everyday.
Never share anything about this game with anyone.
You have to send the proof to the curator that you are
actually doing all these.
50th day, when almost all your senses are gone they ask
you to jump from a building/bridge or jump under the
train.
RECENT CASES
1. RUSSIA
In March 2017, approximately 130 separate cases of
suicide related to the phenomenon has been
reported
In February, 15-year-old Yulia Konstantinova and 16-
year-old Veronika Volkova threw themselves off the
top of a 14-storybuildinginIrkutsk,Siberiaafter
completing 50 tasks sent to them.
In February, a girl known as Ekaterina, 15, was in
critical condition after throwing herself out of an
apartment and falling on snow-covered ground in the
town ofKrasnoyarsk.

2.INDIA
On 30 July 2017, MANPREET SINGH SAHANI ,a
14-year-old boy committed suicide by jumping
from the seventh floor of anAndheri(East)
buildingin the city ofMumbai.
Mr.Devendra Fadnavis ,chief minister of
maharastra,blamed the suicide on the Blue
Whale game, though the Mumbai Police said
they had not found evidence that the
teenager had played the game.
3.ARGENTINA
InSan Juan Province, Argentina, a 14-year-old boy was
admitted to intensive care after participating in Blue Whale

4.CHILE
In the Chilean city ofAntofagasta, a mother reported to the police
that her 12-year-old daughter had 15 cuts on her arm that formed
the design of a whale

5.CHINA
InNingboCity,Zhejiang, a suicide group was founded by a
10-year-old girl who posted several photos of her self-
mutilation related to the Blue Whale.
6.GEORGIA
On 27 May 2017,Rustavi 2TV reported that a 12-year-old girl tried
to commit suicide, allegedly as part of the game. The girl jumped
from the fifth floor but survived and is undergoing medical
treatment at hospital with multiple injuries and traumas

7.VENEZUELA
A 15-year-old student from Nazareth College in the city ofPuerto
Ordazcommitted suicide after taking part in Blue Whale on the
night of 27 April 2017
REACTIONS
On 26 May 2017,Russian Duma(parliament) passed a bill
introducing criminal responsibility for creating pro-suicide
groups on social media.
InBrazil, in response to the game, a designer and a
publicity agent fromSo Paulocreated a movement
calledBaleia Rosa(Pink Whale).
In May 2017, authorities of theMexicanstate ofMichoacn
issued an alert warning about the possibility of the Blue
Whale challenge to invade the country.
In May 2017,Tencent, China's largest Internet service
portal, closed 12 suspicious Blue Whale-related network
groups on its social networking platformQQ, as the
number of this kind of groups is on the rise.
WHAT IS INSTAGRAM DOING TO
STOP THE GAME SPREADING?
Instagram has started showing users a
warning when they search for pictures relating
to Blue Whale.
When you search for the term on the network,
anotification appears which reads:Posts with
words or tags youre searching for often
encourage behaviour that can cause harm
and even lead to death.
Dr Shubha Madhusudhan, clinical
psychologist at Fortis Hospitals
Bangalore, points out that teenagers
undergo hormonal changes.
Hormones take over their
intelligence. Even if parents are loving
and available for them, they will want
to do something thrilling. Children
want to become famous through
social popularity.
