Why use visuals in your class?

Studies show that people remember 20% of what they hear, and 30%
of what they see, meaning both combined provides for maximum
learning
It keeps the teacher on track with the lesson, by following the
sequential visual aids such as a PowerPoint
Can help keep students motivated and more interested in the lesson
Creating visuals

Putthe most important information early on

Keep informational themes together
Makesure visuals are appropriate for age
group (i.e: poster, PowerPoint, etc.)
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Visuals for ELL students

Making connections through pictures, drawings and other visual

representation has shown great success in teaching ELL students
various concepts
Be sure visuals are very clear in regard to what they are trying to
express and explain
Be sure that content is not offensive to the students based on their
native language and culture
Visuals can reduce time spent talking by teacher, which reduces
confusion due to the language barrier

things familiar and comfortable for them
Extremely useful in teaching nouns, verbs and adjectives since they can
all be shown pictorially
Using images of famous people that are familiar to the students will
keep them interested in the lesson
Using timelines as visuals for ELL
students

Using timelines can show grammatical order which is

difficult to represent through pictures
Effectively teach tenses and time expressions such as
by and until
Can be used to teach any sequential information
Very effective in teaching historical events and times
