Survival Scenario
Tell your group that their airplane has just
crashed in the ocean. There's a desert island
nearby, and there's room on the lifeboat for
every person plus 12 items they'll need to
survive on the island. Instruct the team to
choose which items they want to take.
Answer:
How do they decide?
How do they rank or rate each item?
9/8/17 SLIDE26
How to collaborate and cooperate
with the team

1. Show respect
Show them that you value
their opinions and that you
appreciate their efforts at all
times
Acting respectfully towards
co-workers means listening
to their opinions and
responding in a professional
manner even if you dont
agree with them.

goals

with the team

4. Give off an air of openness

Never make your
colleagues feel like they
cant come to you with
new suggestions and
processes
Open communication is
important for team
building and increasing
morale.

with the team
5. Cultivate personal relationships with your
colleagues.
Show an interest in their
lives beyond the
corporate world.
Find opportunities to spend
time with your co-workers
outside of the office and
your business relationship
will thrive as a result.

at work, then you
can be open and

in terms of your
thoughts and
actions

with the team

7. Take responsibility for your actions.

Take ownership
of how you work
on a daily basis
and where you
can improve.

9/8/17 SLIDE33
How to negotiate conflict

Separate problem issues

from people issues.
Be soft on people, hard
on problem.
Look for underlying
needs, goals of each
party rather than
specific solutions.
9/8/17 SLIDE34
What Youll Need: 20 sticks of uncooked
spaghetti, 1 roll of masking tape, 1 yard of
string, and 1 marshmallow for every team.
Instructions: Using just these supplies, which
team can build the tallest tower?
Theres a catch: the marshmallow has to be
at the very top of the spaghetti tower, and
the whole structure has to stand on its own
(that means no hands or other objects
supporting it!) for five seconds.
