DEFINITION
Trade unions are voluntary
organizations of workers or
employers formed to
promote and protect their
interests through collective
action.
According to the Trade Union Act 1926-

A combination of workers or
employers.
Such a combination could be
permanent or temporary.
Could include federation of two or
more unions.
To regulate relations among
workmen, between workmen and
employers or among employers
themselves.
WHY FORM TRADE UNION?
negotiate better pay
better working conditions like
holidays or improved health and
safety
provide training for new skills
give general advice and support
to enhance overall organizational
effectiveness
for effective communication between
management and workers
to strengthen labor bargaining power
PROBLEMS
SELF INTEREST:- The leaders of trade
union work more to save their own interest
rather than workers.
SURPLUS IN NUMBER:-
As there are more trade unions in
organizations as it is required so that
mismanagement happens & thus
productivity goes down.
THREAT OF JOBS:- Workers feel that
if they join trade union and demand
their rights they might
lose their jobs.
POLITICAL INFLUENCE:- Most of
the trade unions are related with
political parties and for this political
power leaders of trade union
dishonor the management of the
organization.
LACK OF UNITY:-
The difference of opinion among members of same union
creates problem at times of collective bargaining.
LACK OF PROPER LEADERSHIP:-
Sometimes the leaders of trade union are
not able to lead workers properly, so they
fail to
assure their rights.
LACK OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:- The
existence of low membership reduces the
bargaining power of the union & in many
cases the employees are not aware about
their role .

LOYALTY TOWARDS THE ESTABLISHMENT
CONCLUSIONS
DEFINITELY TRADE UNION plays a
vital role in industrial relations.
It creates a spirit of self-reliance
and self respect among the
workers. TRADE UNION helps in
forming healthy labor policy which
reduces chance of dispute in
future.
