Leader in Me
7 Habits
SRE is excited to be a Leader in Me
campus. Focusing on the 7 Habits, students
will work toward becoming a leader at home
and at school. The Leader in Me works well
with the LISD ethical principles that we have
always taught at SRE. For more information

This year, fourth grade is


departmentalizing. This means that your
child will have two teachers.
Ms. Smith and Ms. Riddle are one
team.
Ms. Peter and Ms. Westergren are the
other team.

Attendance
Students must arrive in their
classroom prior to the 7:45 bell,
otherwise they will be tardy. (If
students arrive before 7:30, they
should wait in the MPR until they are
dismissed to class. Thanks!)
Per school policy, students are
allowed one day for each day of an
absence to make up work they may
have missed.
Communication
Teachers are asked to check their
emails and phone messages at the end
of the school day.
If there are any urgent messages
please call the office at (512) 570-
5700.
If there are any changes in student
transportation, the office needs a
written note or call from you before
2:00 pm.

If you have a parent portal to txConnect, you
can
go to the LISD web homepage and connect to it
to
check your account information. If you have not
set up an account please see me at the end for
your childs individual portal id.

Folders/Planners
Wednesday Folders contain
corrected homework, graded
papers, notes, and information
from the school. Please review
and return any necessary
paperwork the following day.
Each student has been given a
planner from the PTA. Students
are writing their daily assignments
in it. Please sign your childs
LISD Dress Code

No low necklines or spaghetti straps.

No see-through or tight tops.

Tops must meet the beltline.

Dresses and shorts must be modest in length.

Pants, jeans, and skirts must meet shirt at the


waist.

Homework
The students will have weekly
homework assignments in spelling,
and/or writing and reading. These
language arts assignments are given
out on Mondays and due on Fridays.
The students will have math homework
approx. two times a week, which is due
the following day. Students are
expected to know their
multiplication facts (0-12.) Please
practice daily.
Grading
Each subject is weighted differently.

Missing work will receive an M in the


gradebook, which is calculated as a zero,
until it is turned in.
Redo Assignments Students will be given
an opportunity to redo an assignment that
falls below an 80. It will be the students
responsibility to turn in the corrected
assignment within five school days to
receive a grade no higher than 80.
BYOT
Steiner Ranch Elementary participates
in LISDs BYOT (Bring Your Own
Technology)
Students, with parent permission and
signed BYOT contract, are able to bring
in their own electronic devices for
lessons and educational purposes only
upon teacher discretion.
If you have not already done so, please
pick up a BYOT contract tonight before
you leave. Thanks!
Miscellaneous
Each student has a writing journal and a science
journal that we keep at school.

Weekly updates are sent home through email.

Units of Study

Each nine weeks involves a different


unit of study.
Students will receive a progress report
in the middle of the first, second, third,
and fourth quarters only if they fall
below 70 in a subject area. They will
receive a report card at the end of each
nine weeks, this will either be an online
or paper copy.

4th Grade Math
In fourth grade, students focus on use of operations,
fractions, and decimals and describing and analyzing
geometry and measurement. Throughout the year
they:
Compare fractions and break fractions into smaller
parts
Compare decimal numbers and find decimal and
fraction equivalents
Develop efficient strategies for multiplying and
dividing multi-digit numbers
Calculate area and perimeter of rectangles
Measure and draw angles using protractors
Math Grades
Grades will be weighted in the
following categories:
