Chassis Frames

Purpose
To take the full load of the vehicle.
To carry load of the passengers or goods carried
in the body.
To support the load of the body, engine, gear
box etc.,
To withstand the forces caused due to the
sudden braking or acceleration
To withstand the stresses caused due to the bad
road condition.
To withstand centrifugal force while cornering
Types
There are three types of frames

1. Conventional frame
2. Integral frame
3. Semi-integral frame
Frame type 1
Two members with cross members
arranged in a particular design
These members jointly take the load of the
vehicle
Frame Type 2
Long channels members and cross members with
uniform interval.
I section is used for this construction.
Can with stand greater load with out bending
Frame Type 3 Integral
Floor assembly and a par of the frame form
one integral unit.
Defects
Following defect are found in a chassis
body.
1. Cracks
2. Dislocated parts
3. Broken Welds.
4. Buckling
Precautions/ Measures
Chassis should be checked for these
defects and guarded against corrosion and
rusting.
To prevent rusting, vehicle should be
regularly painted.
Some repair is performed on chassis, it
should be checked for regular alignment.
