    Pinkeye, also known as conjunctivitis, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva that causes the eyes to appear red. It is commonly caused by viruses or bacteria and spreads through contact with infected eye secretions or when rubbing the eyes. Common symptoms include redness, tearing, and discharge from the eyes. Conjunctivitis is very contagious and most common in babies and young children. It is treated with antibiotic eye drops and usually clears up within a week with treatment.
