Best Practices
Established expectations- . The first critical feature for SWPBIS is to
establish clear and consistent school-wide expectations (McKevitt &
Braaksma, 2008, p. 740).
Teaching the expecations- Behavioral expectations must be taught to
students (McKevitt & Braaksma, 2008, p. 740).
Using data- Behavioral incident or office referral data are efficient, effective,
and naturally occurring ways to monitor the impact of the universal PBIS on
student performance (McKevitt & Braaksma, 2008, p. 743).
Current Direction for Action Plac
Professional Development-
Give teachers the necessary tools
Teachers buy-in will increase
Students will get weekly lessons
Consistency of enforced expectations

Tahquitz High School
Hemet, CA
Problem to be Addressed: A variety of state and local sources demonstrate that there is a need to focus on creating a positive and
engaging climate at Tahquitz High School where students feel valued, supported and safe. The number of suspensions and
behavioral incidents fluctuated during the 2016-2017 school year. Further, there is an increase of suspensions and incidents
among the 9th grade students.
Goal One (Use SMART criteria): By October 15, 2017, all teaching staff at Tahquitz High School will attend a PBIS training to
establish clearly defined processes, guidelines and expectations so teachers can implement PBIS in their classrooms to improve
student behaviors.

minutes per lesson on the PBIS expectations as outlined by the administration and PBIS team.
