1955
The flood affected Yuba city and
Marysville on December 31 1955 and
January 1 of 1956.

The flood killed over 40 people and


made over 30,000 citizens evacuate
from their homes.

The disaster made the county create a


water program to avoid another
disaster like this from ever happening
Yuba city floods again.
1956
The first computer that included a
hard drive was created by the
company IMB

It was able to store a total of 5


megabytes.

The hard drive weighed over a ton.

Hurricane Audrey affected Texas
and Louisiana which killed over
400 people.

About 40,000 residents were left


without a home.

Hurricane Audrey caused about


147 million dollars in damages.

Fidel castro leads a group of men
and women to gain power over
Cuba.

In the process, former dictator,


Batista flees to the Dominican
Republic.

After Castro took control, education


became free in Cuba and private
Cuban Revolution
education disappeared.

On November 8, 1960 John F.
Kennedy beats Richard Nixon to
become president.
On January 20, 1961, John F.
Kennedy is inaugurated
John F. Kennedy also negotiated
the nuclear test ban treaty where
the Soviet Union, Great Britain and
the United States agreed to prohibit
nuclear testing.

This annual parade lasts five days and


entertains over 26,000 people each
year.

The parade was created to celebrate


the rich heritage of the city.

By the 1980s, the parade grew so


large, it had to change locations to
Conejo Creek park where its still being

texas is where president of the
United States is assassinated.

Just a few days later on


November 25, about 250,000
arrive to his funeral to pay their
respects.

where he and Soviet premier

Nikita Khrushchev negotiated
their conflict.
1964
The US sends 5,000 troops to Vietnam,
increasing its total to 21,000 troops.

In the process North Vietnamese torpedo


boats attacked US destroyer ships.

This led to the Tonkin Gulf resolution to


be passed which allowed the president,
Lyndon B. Johnson, to take any
necessary action against North Vietnam.
Vietnam War
The war killed an estimated 58,000
troops and about 2 million Vietnamese

Immigrants coming into the US would
increasingly come from countries in
Asia, and Africa and not from Europe.

This law allowed families to be able to


get more opportunities in the US.

Since then, over 4.3 million immigrants


have come from Mexico and about 1.4
million have come from the Philippines.
