History
Around 500 years ago, settlers from Tahiti arrived to the islands, bringing their
beliefs of gods and demi-gods and instituting a strict social hierarch based on a
kapu system.
In 1778, Captain James Cook founded the island of Kauai, opening the doors to
the west.
In 1810 Kamehameha went to unify all the Hawaii Islands into one royal
kingdom. His son, Liholiho, abolished the kapu system in 1819.
American Colonists took control of Hawaiis economy and overthrew the
Hawaiian Kingdom in 1893.
Hawaii became the 50th state in August, 21, 1959.
