BY INAUGURATION DAY (MARCH 4, 1933), EVERY U.S. STATE HAD ORDERED ALL REMAINING BANKS TO
CLOSE AT THE END OF THE FOURTH WAVE OF BANKING PANICS, AND THE U.S. TREASURY DIDNT HAVE
ENOUGH CASH TO PAY ALL GOVERNMENT WORKERS. THIS CAUSED MORE PEOPLE TO GO INTO
POVERTY.
1/1/1934

Alcatraz officially becomes a federal prison in January. Alcatraz is one of the toughest prisons in
the world. Only one of the three people who tried escaping actually escaped.
1/11/1935

Amelia Earhart flies from Honolulu to Oakland Ca. This is before she
decided to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
3/4/1936

The first flight of the airship Hindenburg at Friedrichshafen, Germany. It


ended in a disaster when it crashed into electrical towers. This effected
the people under it when it happened.
7/2/1937

Amelia Earhart went missing July 2nd 1937. She was the first female pilot
to fly on her own across the Atlantic Ocean. Her flight started March
1937 meaning she went wising in about 4 months.
9/24/1938

In September 24, 1938 during a tense meeting in Berchtesgaden, Germany, of Neville Chamberlain
British prime minister left and Reich Fuehrer Adolf Hitler was seeking a solution to the
Czechoslovakian controversy. At right are Joachim von Ribbentrop, Germany foreign minister, and
sir Neville Henderson, British ambassador to Berlin.

This is the German infantry parading in front of Hitler in Warsaw on October 5th .
The fuehrer are seen giving the Nazi salute in the bottom right hand corner of of the pix.
He paid his first visit to the polish capital since the outbreak of war.
02/09/1940

The remains of the beautiful cathedral, following the large-scale Nazi raid on the midland city in
Coventry, England Dec 9. Just the walls remain of the body of the nearly 500 years old building.
11/14/1941

In November 14,1941 a British aircraft carrier was struck by a torpedo from a German submarine.
The 22,000-ton escort carrier capsized and sank later that same day.
