One of the 2 types of transport
tissue in vascular plants.The word
xylem is derived from the Greek
word (xylon), meaning "wood";
the best-known xylem tissue is wood,
though it is found throughout the
plant.
Functions Of Xylem
It transports water and soluble
mineral nutrients from the roots
throughout the plant.
It is also used to replace water lost
during transpiration and
photosynthesis.
PHLOEM
It is the innermost layer of the bark, hence
the name, derived from the Greek word
(phloios) meaning "bark".It is
concerned mainly with the transport of
soluble organic material made during
photosynthesis.This process of
transportation is called translocation.
Functions Of Phloem
It carries organic nutrients to all parts of
the plant where needed.
It composed of still-living cells that
transport sap.
It also storage tissues organs such as the
roots are sugar sources during springs.

travel along sieve elements but
other types of cells are also
present like the companion cells,
parenchyma cells and fibers.
