0 - 12 months
CEPHALOCAUDAL (HEAD TO TAIL):gross
motor skills
3 months: Lifts head and shoulders off
table
5 months: Turns over, no head lag when
in sitting position
6 months: assumes tripod position;
supports weight when held in standing
position
7 months: Sits alone with hands held
forward for support
8 months: Sits securely with support
9 months: Able to creep and
crawlable to regain balance when
sitting.
PROXIMAL TO DISTAL

1. 3 to 4 months: arm control; support


upper body wight; takes objects with
hands
2. 6 to 7 months: Transfers objects from
one hand to the other
3. 10 months: Grasp intact
FONTANELS

1. Anterior: closes at 12 to 18 months


(diamond shaped)
2. Posterior: Closes at 2 months (may be
closed at birth)
TEETH

1. 4 to 8 months: Central adibular


incisors
2. 1 year: 8 teeth (average)
COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT

1.1 month: Reflexive


2.1 to 4 months
visually follows objects 180 degrees
recognizes familiar faces and objects
Turns head to locate sounds
discovers parts of own body (head,
feet)
3. 4 to 8 months: Beginning object
permanence.
Searches for objects that have fallen

Imitates expressions and gestures of others

Smiles at self in mirror (mirror image play)

Begins development of depth and space perception


4. 9 to 12 months:
search for hidden objects
SOCIALIZATION

1. 1 month: Differentiate between face


and object
2. 2 months: social smile
3. 4 months: recognizes priamry care
giver
4. 7 to 8 months: shy with strangers
5. 9 to 10 months: Seperation anxiety
VOCALIZATION (language
development)

1. 2 months: differentiated cry


2. 3 months: High-pitched cry
3. 5 months: Simple vocal sounds, turns
to voice
4. 6 months Begins to initiate sounds
5. 9 months: first word
6. 12 months: two words besides mama
and dada
Play (solitary)

1. Purpose: To stimulate sensorimotor


development
2. Toys (simple, easily handled, safe,
no sharp points or small removable
parts, stimulationg, washable & non-
lead paint)
3. GAMES: peek-a-boo and patty cake
