What are adverbs?
Adverbs describe an action.

Modify adjectives or other adverbs.

ADVERBS OF MANNER
Describe how somebody does something.

They go AFTER the verb

EXCEPT! With passive verbs they go between the auxiliary and main verb.

She speaks fluently.

English is fluently spoken by the majority of Swedes.


ADVERBS OF FREQUENCY
Sometimes, usually and normally can also be put at the front of a sentence for
effect.

Sometimes, I have ice cream for dinner.


ADVERBS OF TIME AND PLACE
They usually go at the end of a clause.

I have been waiting for two hours

Place adverbs go BEFORE time adverbs.

I have been waiting at the bus stop for two hours.


ADVERBS OF DEGREE
To describe how something is done or to modify an adjective.
