Hypertext, Hypermedia
and Multimedia

Hypertext

Refers to links among textual items indicated as an underlined blue type .

When we click on the link, it opens a new page, it is often used to link text
to referenced texts.

Provide learners a wide variety of on-line information, enrich learning tasks


by reinforcing vocabulary, giving definitions, authors information, etc.
Hypertext example

In this example first, we enter on the link The World-Wide Web, and its page appears,
then we clicked on the link called W3 servers, and it show us its page too.
Hypermedia

Hypermedia: Is a mix between hypertext and media.

Similar links to those used in hypertext,


but involving various Hypermedia links
Hypermedia is: various media such as sound, images,
animation and video.
Useful to reinforce pronunciation, and enrich
Helps to improve language learning tasks.
Its a good tool to create web pages to
skills: practice specific abilities in language learning,
like speaking, listening, etc.
Hypermedia example

In this example first, lets imagine


that a student wants to know the
meaning of the word embrace
so he looks for it on Internet, and
there is an hypermedia option,
that will let him listen to the
correct pronunciation of the
world.
Multimedia
Multimedia tends to feature several media types including text, images, sound, video or
animations.

It is used for auto-learning, stimulating the senses, students are motivated and helps for a
better learning development.

The difference between multimedia and hypermedia is that multimedia features several
media types (text, images, sound video and animations), not only two types of media.
