This presentation covers the history of piracy, modern piracy, and solutions to the issue. It discusses how piracy originated in the Mediterranean Sea in the 14th century BC and was practiced by groups like the Barbary corsairs. Later, buccaneers operated out of the Caribbean between the 1600s-1700s. Now, Somali pirates hijack ships and crews for ransom, with little government intervention. The presentation compares historical pirates who followed codes to modern pirates financed by investors.
