Orphans…
Who are orphans…
• A child (below the age of 18) who has lost
one or both parents.
ORPHAN IS SOMEONE ------
– Has lost one or both parents, or
– Has a chronically ill parent, or
– Live in a household where at least one
adult has been sick for at least 3 months
or has died, or
– Live outside family care (in institutions or
on the street)
– Made vulnerable by AIDS

What statistics say..
 143 million worldwide. In India,
we have 55 million children not
having one parent or both.
Every hour in India:--
 1625 children more join others
on the streets.
 1667 die of malnutrition.
 115 are forced in prostitution.
 66 below the age of 15 are
afflicted with HIV.
 251 are orphaned due to the
HIV.
REPERCUSSIONS

We believe that every child has a right to a
family and the right to grow up with love,
respect and security.
- SOS CV is a member of SOS- kinderdorf that was founded by
Austrian Prof. Hermann Gmeiner who was moved by the
plight of children's due to World War II.

- Mr. Helmut Kutin, who was a child at the first SOS CV at


Imst, has now taken in the reins of the organization.

Glimpse of Life
in a Village
•Every village has 20 houses, with a foster mother and 9 to 12
children in every home.
• A common grocer of the village provides the necessities,
every house has to buy with its own budget.
•Children get ready, go to school in the day, go for their
playtime in evening and spend time managing their homes in
the evening assisting their mother’s.
•They have regular exams and go for their higher studies in
the mainstream institutes.
MECHANISM OF OPERATION
Take children’s from 0 to 6 years of age.

- Every home has its bank account which


the foster mother holds for the family
expenses.

Facilities provided to children are:-


- Kindergarten.
- Music Room.
- Library.
- Playgrounds.
- Learning centers.
