Belgium

A country much more than just waffles and chocolate


Belgium is a country in Western Europe. It is most known for medieval towns,
Renaissance architecture and being the headquarters of the European Union
and NATO.
They joined the EU in 1958.
It is also well known for foods such as Belgium waffles and
chocolate.
Belgium is home to over 11 million people.
The main languages spoken by these people are French, German and Dutch.
The currency used is the Euro.
It lies in the Central European Time zone.
And the capital city is Brussels.
Tourism-A Day in Brussels
Brussels is Belgium's most popular tourist destination. Some of it's
best attractions for a day in Brussels include:
The Grand Place-this is the central square of Brussels. A huge city
square surrounded by historic buildings dating back to the 14th
century
Musical Instrument Museum-located in central Brussels this is a
music museum internationally renowned for it's collection of over
8,000 instruments
Royal Palace of Brussels-the official palace of the King and Queen of
Belgium, open for tours
Cinquantenaire-a large public city park landscaped in the 19th
century with floral gardens and fountains with many art and
military museums
Ixelles-a district of Brussels filled with boutiques and restaurants
and is known for it's art deco buildings

Adolphe Sax-born in Dinant in 1814

Georges Remi (Herg)-Georges Remi
or Herg was an influential comic
writer who invented the character of
Tintin
Audrey Hepburn-this iconic actress
was born in Ixelles, Brussels
although she spent most of her life
in the UK
Diane von Furstenburg- this
designer credited for first designing
the wrap dress is from Brussels
