Welcome to our Open House!
Thank you for coming to our Open House!

Tonight we will be discussing how technology is integrated into the classroom and
how you can use this technology at home with your child. The Top Tools we will
be going over tonight are: BrainPOP, Sketchpad and Google Forms. We hope you
find this information useful and interesting. By the end of this presentation, we feel
that you will be informed and comfortable enough to use these tools at home.

BrainPOP
-Over 1,000 short and informative animated videos for students K-12

-BrainPOP is a fun and interactive tool for teachers and students to use in and outside of the classroom.

-BrainPOP Jr is for students aged K-3

-Covers subjects such as: ELA, Social Studies, Math, Science, Engineering & Tech, Arts & Music and Health

-Also available for ESL students!

-Quizzes provide formative assessment for educators, easy way to record learning accomplishments

-Used throughout the United States and in over ten different countries

-Subscriptions are needed but BrainPOP offers free materials- movie of the day, free movies from each subject area,
education materials, lesson plans, education games (GameUp)
How BrainPOP is Used in Other Classrooms

Elementary School teacher, Kim Broadhead used BrainPOP in her classroom to go over Americas National Symbols. In
this second grade Social Studies lesson, students are asked to identify acts of patriotism and national symbols and why
they are important to Americans. Kim Broadhead recommends using BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr to introduce these topics.
She also recommends BrainPOP Educators to find background information and activities and games for US Symbols.

Kindergarten teacher, Brittany, runs the blog Tickled Pink in Primary to inform other educators about her beliefs, practices,
and her own lesson plans. In her lesson Teaching the Silent E Rule, she uses a video in BrainPOP Jr to introduce the topic
and this helped the students become excited about the Silent E!
How BrainPOP is Used in Our Classroom

Students used BrainPop to watch a short but informative video on the moon
phases. This video featured two characters, Tim and Moby, and together they
explored the Sun, Moon, and Earth. Students are engaged and entertained by the
video and this ensures that they are paying attention and learning new
information. After the video is over, we will be able to refer it at any point to
reinforce the material.

BrainPOP Common Core Standard
Digital Literacy Categories: SBAC test taking skills: Basic Operations: Explain and
use age-appropriate online tools and resources (e.g. tutorial, assessment, web
browser)

How to meet this standard:

Students will be able to understand and explain how to use BrainPOP while
learning age-appropriate information.

Sketchpad
-Multi-touch & Multi-user

-Explore different tools and instruments

-Sketchpad can be used in and outside of the classroom

-Can be used for educational, academic or non academic purposes

-Can be used for all subjects: Math, Science, English, Social Studies and much
more

-Students will be able to create and express themselves without using a pen and
paper

Kathy Schrock explains the idea of sketchnoting in not only her classroom, but
classrooms across the country. She believes the using an app, like Sketchpad,
helps children learn more effectively while they draw. Academic drawing helps
students because it is a visual representation of what they have learned.
How Sketchpad is Used in Our Classroom

The students used Sketchpad to create their own phases of the moon. The
students were able to explore Sketchpad by using the various options presented
to them to create the moon phases. The students can also save their work and
refer back to this at any point.
Sketchpad Common Core Standard
Digital Literacy Categories: Multimedia and Presentation Tools: W6, SL 5: Use
painting and drawing tools/applications to create and edit work

How to meet this standard:

Students will be able to use Sketch Pad by creating and drawing the different
moon phases and getting use to the tool.

Google Forms
-Create surveys, quizzes and assignments

--Personalize with templates and themes

-Receive an email when students complete their responses

-Receive responses immediately

-Formative assessment

-Use as an Exit Ticket to assess students knowledge after a lesson

Elementary school educator, Kristy Andre, goes over her top ten ways to use Google Forms
in the classroom. She highlights key points on how to use Google Forms and why it is
effective for students, parents and teachers.

In this blog a third grade teacher for over thirty years, shares the importance of Google
Forms in his classroom. He also highlights the many uses and explained how it saves him
time when grading. He believes that the best way to learn how to use all of Google, is to
focus on one tool at a time and right now, his focus is Google forms.
How Google Forms is Used in Our Classroom

After the lesson about the moon phases is taught, the children will take a short
quiz using Google Forms. They will be able to access the quiz through a link. As
soon as the students complete the quiz, the teachers will receive an email and will
be able to access the data.
Google Forms Common Core Standard
Word Processing: W 5, W 6, W 10: Use a word processing application to
write, edit, print and save simple assignments

How to meet this standard:

The students will be expected to use Google Forms to write, edit and save
assignments. They will also be expected to submit the Google Forms after the
complete them.

home. The classroom and home are very closely correlated and it is important that
