SURFACE
DEF:
A surface is a boundary that separates an
object from another object or substance.
TYPES:
NOMINAL SURFACE
REAL SURFACE
SURFACE ROUGHNESS
MEASURMENT
TALLY SURF
Tally surf can measure small surface
variations.
A typical Tally surf can measure small
vertical features ranging in height from 10
nanometres to 1 millimetre.
LATHE MACHINE
Removes undesired material from a
rotating work-piece in the form of chips
with the help of tool.
WORKING PRINCIPLE:
The lathe operates on the principle of the
work being rotated against the edge of a
cutting tool.

TURNING OPERATION
Turning is a process of machining, a metal
removal process.
Work piece is allowed to rotate at high
speed.
The cutting tool feeds into the rotating
work piece.

TAGUCHI TECHNIQUE
Taguchi methods are statistical methods
developed by GENICHI TAGUCHI to
improve the quality of manufactured
goods.
Taguchi methods are also applied to
engineering , bio technology , marketing ,
advertising.
MAJOR POINTS ON TAGUCHI
QUALITY
Continual quality improvements and cost
reductions.
Measurement of the quality of a product
is loss generated by that product.
Change the pre-production experimental
procedure from varying one factor at a
time to varying many factors
simultaneously.
Taguchi method focuses on Robust
Design through use of

Signal-To-Noise ratio

Orthogonal arrays
SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO
. In signal-to-Noise Ratio, signal represents
the desirable value and noise represents
the undesirable value.
Smaller-The-Better,

Larger-The-Better,

Nominal-The-Best.
STEPS IN TAGUCHI METHOD
OLOGY
Determine the quality characteristic to be
optimized
Identify the noise factors and test conditions
Identify the control factors and their alternative
levels
Design the matrix experiment and define the
Data analysis procedure
Conduct the matrix experiment
Analyze the data and determine optimum
Levels for control factors
Predict the performance at these levels
Process parameters and their levels

CONCLUSION
In this study of Taguchi parameter design
we have reduced the number of
experiments to be conducted to a
maximum extent and it can successfully
verified that the optimum process
parameters which are v2f2d2 [Cutting
Speed (400rpm), Feed (0.25mm/rev),
Depth of cut (0.5mm)] which gives lower
surface roughness value of 5.74m.
