Types of rotors

Depending on the number of blades, wind speed and nature of application, rotors
have been classified into various types and sizes.
(a) (e) are high speed ones, suitable for applications such as electrical power
generation
(f)- (g) low-speed rotors and most suited for water lifting applicatioons

The max, practically obtainable values of the power coefficient is approximately


0.5.

A wind turbine achieving a value of power coefficient as 0. 4 or above is


considered as to have good performance
Blade pitch angle
The output of a turbine is also greatly influenced by the blade pitch angle .

The effect of blade pitch on CP characteristics is illustrated in Fig.

Blade pitch control is a very effective way of controlling the output power, speed or

torque
