Ticket Pocket
Facings
Facings are pieces of fabric sewn to the garment edge, turned to the inside, and sewn in
place by hand or machine.
Types of Facings
Fitted Facings
are pieces of fabric that match the area to be faced in shape and grain.
Types of Facings
Bias Facings
utilize the stretch of the bias to shape the facing to the edge being faced.
Interfacing
is a supporting fabric that is used to give body, shape and reinforcement to particular
areas of a garment, and is hidden between plies of fabric

Fuse or Sew-in Interfacing
Fusible interfacing adds a bit more stiffness once it is fused than when it is standing alone.

Slit Pocket
This is one of the most common type of pockets you see in garments. It is named so
because from the outside, you only get to see the slits of the pockets.
Slash Pocket
This pocket is a kind of back facing to the front of the garment. Sometimes it is shaped
as a curve or as straight but slanted. They are also called cutaway pockets.
Patch Pocket
This pocket is as named added as patch on the garment. It is also the most common
type of pockets.
Pleated Pocket
A type of patch pocket where a fold is sewn into the pocket to add volume.
Seam Pocket
A type of pocket where the opening follows the seam of the garment. Typically the
opening is not visible and the pocket bag is hidden.
Welt Pocket
This pocket is a kind of back facing to the front of the garment. Sometimes it is shaped
as a curve or as straight but slanted. They are also called cutaway pockets.
Post Box Pocket
This is a combination of a welt pocket and patch pocket. The Patch is just a
decorative element around the slit pocket which is bound in the opening.
Zippered Pocket
A zippered opening given to a slit pocket or a patch pocket.
Kangaroo Pocket
A type of pocket usually featured on hoodies and sweatshirts, that is large enough to
fit both hands into. The pocket is open on either side and sits on the lower front section
of the shirt.
Utility Pocket
This is a variation of Kangaroo pocket with different divisions for carrying tools and
such, usually seen in the front of the garment.
Ticket Pocket
This is the teeny tiny pocket on various jeans. It is usually seen inside the side inset
pocket.
Cowl Pocket
This is a decorative patch pocket which has folds of fabric draped around the
opening like a scarf.
Expandable Pocket
A form of a patch pocket, often with accordion folds for increased capacity, closed
with a flap secured by snap, button magnet or velcro.
