THESIS TOPIC : 1

CAMPUS DESIGN - NID, HARYANA

HASSAN JASEEM KM
CONCERN

Design has been understood as an important determinant of growth in the

21st century, but even when in the phase of industrial development, the
nation does not have national level institutes to promote industrial design
education for the emerging youth generation.
Monotonous institutions often fail to inspire the best of the students of
varying cultural and social backgrounds
Lack of healthy environments for dynamic exchange of ideas, which will be
backbone of innovation
Conventional designs fail to promote the modern educational principles,
whereas
too modern designs fail to address the significance of social and cultural
values
NEED AND FEASIBILITY
India is fast becoming one of the worlds leading consumers of manufactured
goods and the manufacturers of the world cannot ignore the fact that there
needs to be a new design sensibility for this new client base
India currently trains around 1,000 design professionals every year against a
requirement of 7,000 to 8,000
With sufficient number of experienced designers, there would be no need for
outsourcing; India could become self-efficient in the field
The Indian industry can meet just an estimated 10% of the demand for design
professionals.
A lot of design companies from abroad are looking to collaborate with Indian
design companies. There is lot of cross-cultural design taking place.
In areas of clean technologies and eco-friendly design, Indian designers can
contribute a lot as we are used to the concept of recycling and reusing.
As India is a huge market, it is necessary Indian designers to understand the
needs of the Indian consumers.
