PCB DESIGNING

AND PRINTING
AN INITIATIVE BY PICT ROBOCON TEAM
WHAT IS PCB?
PCB is Printed Circuit Board
It is a Thin Board made of Fibre-Glass on
Which Conductive pathways are Etched To
form The Connections and then Electronic
Components are soldered to form the
Electronic circuits
IMAGES OF PCB
ADVANTAGES
It provides a mechanical support for all the components
Compact size and Easy to handle
Reduces Number of Wires and thus no chance of Loose connection
and short circuiting
Reduces Circuit Complexity and is thus Easy to Debug and repair
Low cost
Easy to Design as well as Manufacture
MAKING A PCB
PCB designing : It is the process in which the required PCB is first designed in
the computer using Modern age Simulations tool such as Proteus , Eagle ,
ORCAD etc.
PCB Manufacturing : It is the process in which we have the design ready and
then the PCB is manufactured using different techniques
Fabrication of Components: In this step the PCB is ready and the electronic
components are soldered onto the PCB.
TYPES OF PCB:SINGLE LAYER

Connections are Printed on

only one side of the PCB and
components are soldered on the other.
This is Cheapest of all PCBs.
It is used to design PCB for
simpler circuits.
TYPES OF PCB : DOUBLE LAYER

In this type of PCB the Connections are

printed on the both sides of PCB
These PCB are Costlier than Single layer
These PCB have higher power dissipation
because of a whole new layer
TYPES OF PCB : MULTILAYER PCB

These types of PCB are used

where a very complex circuit needs
to be implemented in a very small area
It uses multiple boards which are separated
by a dielectric
Multilayer PCB are made only with
even Layers and upto 100 layers can be made
PCB DESIGNING
PCB designing is done mainly on simulating soft wares like Proteus , EAGLE ,
ORCAD etc.
It has two main Steps
1. Designing the Schematic that is a theoretical circuit diagram consisting all
the components of the circuit
2. Creating a Board file from the schematic and placing the components on
required positions and Routing the connection paths (that is creating paths
for connections on PCB)
SCHEMATIC DESIGN
The schematic is made by including all the components are that are in the
circuit and then making a complete circuit as shown in next picture
These files have .sch extension
The components can be found in their respective libraries which are provided
by those respective software
The type of components , specifications , dimensions should be properly
selected.
SCHEMATIC DESIGN
COMPONENT PLACEMENT AND ROUTING
This step involves creating a board file of the schematic .
In this step the components are placed at their decided place and then
the connections are routed.
While placing the components several parameters are considered such as
heat dissipation ,electromagnetic interference of the device, shielding , size
and accessibility.
