EVALUATIVE COMMENTARY
30%

NURUL NADIAH BINTI RASDI / APB PG / 2017

• Evaluate / Review / Critic an Argumentative Article that
I already approved.

• It is a pairwork. So, only submit 1 assignment. For

example, since there are 28 of you in Electrical and
Mechanical, I will receive 14 assignments. As for the
Civil, there are 30 of you, so I will receive 15
assignments.

• Due date for submission is the last day of class,

whether during the class or during the day of your
class. So, the last day will be different for each group
since the time for your class is different with me. I do
this because I want everyone to submit to me
personally. As you know, this assignment is 30%.

ARTICLE
• The article must be signed by me when you are going to submit the
assignment. So, I know that I already approved the article.

• If let’s say I already signed but you want to print again (the same
article), don’t worry, just give me the article to sign before you
submit the assignment.

• I have a record of when you give me the article to approve before

(the date).

• You also need to highlight all the points in the article. Use different
colour (any colour). For example, use pink for main ideas and green
for supporting details. So, I will know that you know/you can
identify all the points in the article.

Title, Author, Source
• Title -> Write the title of your article. What is the title?

• Author -> Write the author of your article. Who wrote the article?
Let’s say if you cannot find the author of your article such as
missing author or anonymous, don’t worry. Just write -. However,
please find the author first because I will check.

• Source -> Write the source of your article. Where do you find it? Is
it online or in a newspaper? If it is online, write the name of the
website and the website address. For example, Private Writing
(http: …). You need to write the website address so know that it is
from online. If you did not write the website address, I think it is
from newspaper. But as I said before, I will check everything again.

• Example: I review an article entitled ‘…’ written by … This article is

taken from …

• Is the author agree or disagree with the topic?
• You can write about 2 or 3 sentences.
• It is in the article. But maybe you cannot see it
directly. You need to read the article. But
usually you can find about the overview in the
first paragraph of your article.

the university (judgemental; critical).

Confident Serious Pessimistic

• How to determine the tone? Read the whole
article. If you are not sure, read loudly. Then,
which category the tone is? Is it positive,
neutral, or negative?
• If you read and the tone is negative, now
choose which negative? Is it bitter, angry,
sarcastic? There are a lot of tones apart from
what I wrote here. You can go and search.
• It is only in 1 sentence.
• Example: The author’s tone of this article is …
