INTRODUCTION
Microbubbles
 Microbubbles are bubbles smaller than one millimetre in
diameter, but larger than one micrometre.
 The composition of the bubble shell and filling material
determine important design features such as buoyancy, crush
strength, thermal conductivity, and acoustic properties.
 Microbubbles are also used in ships to reduce drag.

 Drag is a mechanical force generated by a solid object moving

through fluid.
 Drag is a resistance of movement of body in fluid.
4

OBJECTIVES
1. To study about microbubbles
2. Their application in drag reduction in ships and other fields.
5

PROPERTIES OF MICROBUBBLES
 Microbubbles looks like and move like white clouds in water.
 Its size is smaller than millibubbles.

 Their size lies between 1 micrometre and 1 millimetre.

6

MICROBUBBLE GENERATION
 There are many methods for generating bubbles in water such
as supplying gas through small pores or shearing gas by
rotating blades

APPLICATIONS OF MICROBUBBLES
 Microbubbles can be used as a skin friction reduction device
 It can be used in ships for drag reduction

 culture of oysters, scallops and other marine products.

 Cell level biological treatment

APPLICATION OF MICROBUBBLES
15

ADVANTAGES
Helps to reduce drag friction in large ships.
Helps in targetted drug delivery.
Helps in cell level biological treatment.
16

CONCLUSION
 Microbubbles have a lot of promising applications.

 By many contributors, the and practical applications have got a

good progress but steadily.

 The air lubrication using microbubbles proves to be a promising

technology.

 In future we can see more practical application using

microbubbles.
