DOG FIGHTING IN THE

USA
By Maxwell Levkulich & Shea McTighe
DESCRIPTION OF THE
PROBLEM

 Dog fighting is a bloody activity generally with two dogs opposing

each other often in a small arena in which they fight to the death for
the entertainment and gain of spectators who often place bets illegally
on the dogs.
CAUSES OF THE PROBLEM

 People join dog fighting “clubs” for monetary gain, when

discovered by police dog fighting “clubs” often have $500,000.

 Weak people also attempt to portray their strength and fight the
dogs to give themselves a sense of power.

 Some find enjoyment from brutal and abusive fights.

EFFECTS OF THE PROBLEM

 ON AN INDIVIDUAL: “Handsome Dan” is one of the dogs

that was rescued from Michael Vick’s dog fighting bust. Dan who was
a fighting dog who had probably been involved in many “to the
death” fights is now found with a loving family . This shows how
innocent these animals are. Dogs like Dan are being murdered every
day to support illegal gambling.
EFFECTS ON A NATION

 Dog fighting effects a nation by allowing cruel and horrible people

take anger out on animals which then could become humans.

 70% of women who have had a male abuse them, the male had
first started abusing their animals first.
EFFECTS GLOBALLY

 Other countries do not have animal abuse laws such as Romania,

Greece, and Netherlands.

 America needs to set the standard and start cracking down on

animal abuse.
CONSEQUENCES

 Felony, $250,000 fine & 3 years in jail.

 Millions of innocent dogs like Handsome Dan will be fought

without respect to life.

 Illegal gambling by the nations worst criminals.

SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION
TO THE PROBLEM

 How can we help?

 We can start to donate to charities such as ASPCA and One Green

Planet. Abstaining from illegal gambling and the stereotype that Pit
bulls are fighters.
SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION
TO THE PROBLEM

 How can the United States and rest of the world help?

 The United States can begin to start raising the bar on protecting
animals and urge its allies to begin to also support the movement and
hopefully it will be influential enough to get global support.
