in Chinese painting, poetry and
music.
Plum Blossom Tree
Plum blossoms flower in later winter and early spring and are
highly regarded as a seasonal symbol of Winter and a harbinger of
Spring.

They are depicted in art and poetry and are loved by the
Chinese.

They are a Confucian symbol for virtue as one of the Four


Gentlemen and one of the Three Friends of Winter.

Cherry blossoms grow naturally in the
northern part of China and are deeply
symbolic in Japanese culture,
symbolising clouds due to their nature,
blooming en masse.

culture as the ancient Chinese believed them to
possess more vitality than any other tree because
their blossoms appear before the leaves sprout.

Peach branches would be placed over doors to


protect against evil influences.

blossom trees and inhabited by
villagers with warm hearts.
