ELECTRIC AND MECHANIC

BICYCLE

• Made by: LEOPEA MIHAIL

What it is and how it works an electric bicycle?

Electric bicycle looks like a traditional bicycle, but has two additional components:
 an electric motor, which aims to put in motion the device is usually located in the hub of the front or rear hub. According
to legal regulations in the European Union, the electric motor of a bicycle can have a maximum power of 250 W (about
0.3 hp) and can generate a maximum speed of 25 km / h.
 Li-Ion battery, which supplies the electric motor with energy and is usually located on or near the rear wheel bike basket.
Usually, the battery is removable to be loaded easily.
Principle of operation

• The operating principle of electric bike is relatively simple: the battery is connected to the engine, which
in turn is started, for example, an ignition key. Depending on the model, can be assisted bicycle pedaling
or accelerator may have its own button.
• You have two choices:
-leave your bike to work only with the electric motor, in which case should not ride.
-ride while the electric motor is running, in which case the speed and battery autonomy increase.
Advantages and disadvantages of brush motor
 As seen in the picture, brush engine dissipates energy through friction and heat.
 All because sparks from the brushes produce a distortion factor of the supply
system by re-injecting spurious pulses in reverse. (Therefore more fall controllers
brush).
 On the one hand is more expensive because it requires maintenance (change
brush), on the other hand it may be more convenient because it can prolong his
life by this maintenance.
 It is advantageous to control using only two wires, making the speed control
voltage.
 Speed is limited by friction (with as we have a bigger speed the brush friction is
greater).
Advantages and disadvantages of brushless motor

• Lack of maintenance is a plus.

• There is friction which gives torque and higher speed and better cooling.
• A disadvantage is that his control is done in a more complex way, so it's not necessarily need a controller.
• Transmission of signals in coils is done using sensors Hall that can give headaches if interrupt.
• Smaller and more compact, but without affecting the couple.

 Electric bikes do not have the advantage of using a brush motor because we need a controller anyway , and
the prices are the same for both the brush and brushless motor.
The motor controller
(Electric) Power Control deals with routing electric power, controlling its quality, and controlling the devices
attached to a power line. A number of technologies have evolved for using the power wiring to turn devices
attached to the power line on and off, monitoring attached devices, and similar activities.
Electric bicycle has such a controller and basically through it controls the electric motor.
The controller is connected to the other devices of electrical system (motor, battery, acceleration, on / off switch)
and through wires we can control the motor .
The advantages of electric bicycle

• you can cover great distances without getting tired: an ordinary bicycle can become tiring if you go
through 20 km round trip to and from the office. Basically, an electric bicycle is ideal for practical
people, that do not necessarily focus on riding experience, but the efficiency of the road itself.

• very low cost: recharging the battery requires less cost than even a subscription by public transport. In
addition, these costs are not comparable to those required for a scooter, a motorcycle or a car.
The disadvantages of electric bicycle

• heavy: the battery and the electric motor together weigh somewhere around 10 kg, which was added
to the bicycle itself.

• high prices: electric bicycles have significantly higher costs compared to traditional ones, through the
battery and electric motor

• lose the basic idea of bike: pedaling hard.
