IS 8888 (PART-1)- REQUIREMENTS FOR LOW INCOME HOUSING –URBAN AREAS
IS 13272:1993 REQUIREMENTS FOR CLUSTER PLANNING FOR HOUSING
TO SAFEGUARDING THE PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND SOCIAL HEALTH OF THE
PEOPLE , MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR HOUSES AND ENVIRONMENTAL
CONDITIONS ARE LAID, THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE KNOWN AS
STANDARDS.

STANDARDS VARY WITH CLIMATE, LOCAL CONDITIONS, CULTURE AND


LEVEL OF INCOME.

MAINLY THE STANDARDS ARE FORMULATED BY – BIS (BEURO OF INDIAN


STANDARDS)
FOR HOUSING SCHEMES, A FEW TYPE OF DESIGNS HAVE TO BE ADOPTED
AS MOST OF THE OCCUPANTS ARE DECIDED AFTER THE HOUSES ARE
CONSTRUCTED. IN SUCH A SCENARIO FOR DESIGNING HOUSE TYPES,
CERTAIN COMMON GUIDING PRINCIPLES AND TECHNIQUES HAVE TO BE
FOLLOWED, THE DESIGN SHOULD SATISFY SOME PRE-LAID AND
ACCEPTABLE MINIMUM STANDARDS.
