Stratus [stra•tus] The word stratus is a Latin word


which means “flattened” or “spread out” or
“layers”
Stratus Clouds
Stratus Clouds are named for the way that they look in the
sky. When you see stratus clouds, they will form as a flat layer
of clouds that are spread out in the sky and are low to the
ground. They might remind you of a gray blanket across the
sky. Stratus clouds often bring precipitation such as rain or
snow.
