mechanism action of digoxin:
Digoxin is a cardiac glycoside prototype from
Digitalis lanata. Mechanism of action of
digoxin in 2 ways, namely direct and indirect
effects. The immediate effect of improving the
strength of heart muscle contraction (positive
inotropic effect). This occurs by inhibition of
the enzyme Na +, K + -ATP ase and increase in
the inflow of calcium ions into the cell intra.
Indirect effect is the effect of digoxin on the
activity of the autonomic nervous and cardiac
sensitivity to neurotransmitters.
indication
 - Heart failure, supraventricular
arrhythmias (especially atrial fibrillation).
 - For congestive heart failure, atrial
fibrillation, atrial tachycardia and atrial
flutter proximal.
 - To treat congestive heart failure, is also
used to treat atrial fibrillation, atrial
arrhythmia (heart upper porch that allow
blood flow to the heart).
toxicity
 May occur anorexia, nausea, vomiting and
headache.
 Toxic symptoms in heart: multiform premature
ventricular contractions or unifocal, ventricular
tachycardia, AV desosiasi, sinus arrhythmia, atrial
tachycardia with varying degrees blokAV.
 Neurologic symptoms: depression, drowsiness,
weakness, lethargy, restlessness, vertigo, confusion
 and visual hallucinations.
 Disorders of the eye: mydriasis, photophobia, and a

skin reactions.
