Tulcea is the municipality of the
district/county with the same
name.
It is situated in the Northern part
of Dobrogea County an dis is made
of Tulcea locality and Vladimirescu
locality.
Tulcea is considered the „gate of entrance” in
the Delta of Danube, because this is the place

The Museum of History and Archeology is a major component of the "Gavrilă
Simion" Eco-Museum Research Institute in Tulcea. Although it is believed that its
founding act is conceived by organizing the permanent exhibition of history and
archeology, in 1975

in a building built in the

Monument of Independence
Park, on the site of the ancient
citadel of Aegyssus, it is
obvious that "history" with the
evolution of the museum
institution in Tulcea county
over 50 years, during which
important restructuring and
transformations took place.
Situated near the waterfront, the Danube Delta Ecotourism Museum Center
forms together with the other two museums the Muslim mosque and other
heritage buildings in its vicinity, the cultural center of Tulcea. Designed as a
complex cultural institution - museum and public aquarium -. The center
includes a permanent exhibition, presenting mainly features characteristic of the
natural
heritage existing in the Danube
Delta Biosphere Reserve, a
public aquarium and various
temporary exhibitions. In a
décor that faithfully fills
habitats specific to the Danube
Delta and the Razim-Sinoie
Lagoon Complex, as well as
other protected areas of
national importance in the
Dobrogea Plateau.
Part of the NORD-DOBROGEAN CULTURAL MUSEUM COMPLEX of the "Gavrilă
Simion" Eco-Museum Research Institute in Tulcea, the Museum of Art (Passage
Mansion), a historical monument built between 1862-1865, shelters an
exceptional cultural heritage (collections of painting, sculpture, icons, oriental
art, graphics and decorative art).
The patrimony of the museum reflects, through the diversity of its collections, a
unique cultural model generated by the ethnic cohabitation between Romanians
and other populations. The approximately 8000 pieces make up an invaluable
ethnographic fund which can be translated in the folk art and folk clothing
collections, ethnography and photo-documents.
The Avramide-house is one of the most beautiful buildings in Tulcea. The house
was built by the Albanian Alexe Avramide and his wife, Elvira between 1897 and
1900. The builders were Italian masters, the furniture was brought from Vienna
by Alexe.

neo-Classic elements. Alexe
Avramide was born in Greece,
so their house was built in the
Greek district of Tulcea. Until
the nationalization (1948) the
house was in family’s
posession, after that, from
1950 it served as a museum.
