is considered a central concept in
anthropology, encompassing the
range of phenomena that are
transmitted through social learning
in human societies.
 Culture is defined as
the complex whole of a society.
This can include everything that
gives a society its identity. In this
lesson we have discussed five basic
characteristics that all cultures
have in common. These
characteristics are that all cultures
share are learned, shared,
symbolic, integrated_,
and dynamic.
 There are seven components of
nonmaterial culture:
 Gestures.
 Language.
 Values.
 Norms.
 Sanctions.
 Folkways.
 Mores.
 Organizationalculture is a system
of shared assumptions, values,
and beliefs, which governs how
people behave in organizations.
These shared values have a strong
influence on the people in
theorganization and dictate how
they dress, act, and perform their
jobs.
 Inaddition to its intrinsic
value, culture provides important s
ocial and economic benefits. With
improved learning and health,
increased tolerance, and
opportunities to come together
with others, culture enhances our
quality of life and increases overall
well-being for both individuals and
communities.
