VOLUNTEERS AROUND THE

WORLD— URI
CHAPTER MEETING
VAW- URI CHAPTER

• Goal: provide medication, free medical care and


educate locals in Guatemala, Dominican Republic
and Panama.

• Country of choice: GUATEMALA

• Date: January 6-20


REQUIREMENTS TO BE AN ACTIVE
MEMBER:

• Join a committee

• Fundraising, Public Relations, Recruitment, Philanthropy,


Education, Language and Culture

• Participate in fundraising events

• Attend Chapter meetings (Mandatory)

• Volunteer in at least one session a semester

• There are only 15-25 spots for each trip


CHAPTER MEETING TIMES &
LOCATIONS
• Mondays in Quinn 314 @5pm
• Thursdays in the MU 360 @ 5pm

Chapter meetings will be every OTHER week until November, then we will meet
EVERY week
• Week of 9/20

COST:

Program Fees Airfare

Guatemala $1,700 $500-700

Program fees cover volunteers housing, food, clinic transportation


and staff while they are in the host community. They cover
transportation to and from the airport in the host country if they
are flying with the group. It does not include flights or funds for
outside/free day activities.

*As a group, we must fundraise $1,500 for


medications which we will do through
fundraising events*
DUES:

• September 30th— $200

• October 14th— $500

• October 30th—$500

• November 5— purchase flights

• November 25— final payment


REFUND POLICY

• If you decide to not go on the trip prior to flights


being bought, the money you have deposited
(excluding $250 deposit) will be returned

• Once flights have been bought, money is


nonrefundable.
GETTING READY FOR THE TRIP-

• Passport due by November 20th *Must be valid for at


least a month after the trip*

• Scrubs— It is mandatory to wear scrubs to every day


of clinic: that means scrub pants and scrub tops, as
well as closed toed shoes.
VOLUNTEERING TRIPS

• Seasons Assisted Living in East Greenwich RI


• Memory Care Unit.
• The hours would be 5-8 .
• You would help serve dinner to the residents and then
you could do either a one on one or a group setting as
the nursing staff would be getting the residents ready for
the night.
